process

The Family
Support Organization
of Essex County (FSO) is a family centered, family driven non-profit organization
that provides peer support, education and advocacy for parents and caregivers
of children who have emotional and/or behavioral challenges. Our goal
is to empower parents and caregivers to take control of their lives by
building on their strengths and supporting them where needed. |We encourage
public and private agencies to work together to strengthen families with
the goal of keeping children safe and healthy in their homes and communities.

about
us

The Family
Support Organization of Essex County (FSOE), a community-based, family-driven
and family-focused organization, is celebrating its second anniversary.
Since its inception, the FSOE has been dedicated to ensuring that familes
have a voice at all levels of the child behavioral health system of care.
With a staff
of peer-support partners and an outreach coordinator, the FSOE provides
support, education and advocacy for parents and caregivers of children
who are enrolled in the child-behavioral-health system of care. Our goal
is to ensure that families receive the support and education they need
to become effective advocates for their children and to make progress
toward their goals. "What makes our organization
unique is that our peer-support partners have overcome many of the challenges
the families we serve are facing," said Kathleen T. Merritt,
Board President, FSOE.
FSOE was founded
in 2004 to provide peer-to-peer support to families of children with special
emotional, behavioral and mental-health challenges. With an emphasis on
strengthening families, FSOE works collaboratively as a system partner
with child/youth service agencies in planning, organizing and delivering
appropriate and necessary services to children and their families.
